Specifically, they are offering transport from point A to point B — not a seat on an aircraft. This newfound model could spell trouble for overweight passengers who tend to have trouble fitting into the tiny allotted seats. At least four U.S. carriers — including American Airlines, Delta-Northwest, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines — are now requiring obese travelers to purchase two tickets. And airlines aren’t the only businesses exacting larger fees from larger clients. Health insurance companies also charge extra to insure obese clients. In Canada, however, such extra charges are prohibited.
