As first reported in VideoAge’s June 2016 Issue, airlines will be streaming content over closed-circuit (onboard) WiFi systems, and passengers will have to bring their own devices to watch content. This is good for airlines, which will save up to 10 percent of the entire cost of an aircraft, plus they will save on fuel by reducing weight. However, for third-, fourth- and fifth-class passengers, who are squashed in their tight seats, opening up laptops while people in front of them are reclining will be virtually impossible. The only possible solution is toviewcontent through hand-held devices, which would bring people back to the peepshow era.
