26 Delta’s New Wi-Fi: Still For Free, And With Increased Speed Delta Airlines is looking to increase the Wi-Fi speed on its aircrafts by up to five times from the current speed. In order to do this, Delta has asked Amazon to provide Internet access to an initial 500 aircrafts starting in 2028. Amazon will use its nascent Leo satellite services that will compete with Starlink’s SpaceX, which provides Internet services to airlines such as United, Southwest, and Alaska. In 2023, Delta was first in offering free Wi-Fi services, now a common offering to airline passengers. Currently, Delta uses Viasat and Hughes Network Systems for its inflight Internet connections. Meanwhile, Amazon already has 200 satellites in space, with plans to deploy thousands more in the years ahead. L.A.
