C o n f e r e n c e s & E v e n t s N ews TRAVELERS GET NO RESPECT A recent survey found that U.S. business executives rank rude hotel staff, intrusive security procedures and “steerage-like treatment” on crowded planes as the worst aspects of traveling for business, but it’s even worse for the “chicken or pasta” crowd. Asked to pick the things they hate most about travel, 86 percent of travelers said airport security screenings, 76 percent checked dirty commercial planes and 74 percent said impersonal treatment by the staff, according to a survey of about 3,000 business executives by Vitesse Worldwide, an executive travel firm in Connecticut. Hotel rates and airfares have been climbing for several months, with travel demand on the rise and airlines cutting capacity by eliminating routes and retiring older planes. And those prices are likely to keep rising. Average airfares and hotel rates will jump as much as five percent in 2012, according to a survey of more than 300 travel managers by the Global Business Travel Assn., a Virginia trade group for travel managers.
