24 Cosmic Rays Hit a Cancun-Newark Airbus A320 In late October, shortly before MIP Cancun 2025, a New Jersey-bound JetBlue Airbus A320 suddenly plunged thousands of feet in the air — sending 20 people to the hospital. According to space experts, it was likely hit by a stream of high-energy particles of cosmic rays from a star that exploded in another galaxy. Airbus officials, on the other hand, blamed the problem on intense solar radiation from the sun interfering with the 20-yearold plane’s navigation computer since cosmic rays can interact with modern microelectronics. The flight was headed from Cancun, Mexico, to Newark, in the U.S., on October 30, when it dropped for no apparent reason during a bout of extreme turbulence, officials said at the time. Pilots regained control and made an emergency landing in Tampa, Florida, but 20 passengers still suffered serious injuries.
