26 May 2022 Event Planner The Mysterious “Quad” on a Boarding Pass An “SSSS” on a boarding pass stands for secondary security screening selection (“quad” in airline lingo). An “SSSS” printed on a boarding pass means that the passenger is getting an extra thorough search when he/she goes through security at U.S. airports. This is triggered by a variety of reasons: unusual itinerary, flights booked at last minute, international one-way tickets. The extra screening is thorough: person, luggage and a body scan to the point that a lane is closed to facilitate the screening, then an agent will take a picture of the boarding pass and passenger’s ID, fill out a form, and then stamp the boarding pass to indicate that the passenger has been screened.
